DISTRAKT – KRS ONE – GHETTOBLASTER

One of my homeboys was over today and he asked me “Distrakt do you still play this Ghettoblaster? They don’t make cassette tapes anymore man!”. I looked at him and said “now you going to have to sit down for a session with my Ghettoblaster and me”, so I pulled out one of my favorite comic books and cartoonist Kyle Baker. With the comic book accompanied a cassette tape by one of the greatest emcees today KRS ONE as Big Joe Krash. Based on KRS One’s music, the comic tells the story of a rapper named Big Joe Krash that strives to educate the young African-American kids in his neighborhood. You follow the tape with the comic book and it’s a beautiful experience. I love sharing it with the seeds from time to time. After my cohort read and followed the tape, I played him some of my new beats and rhymes off the new album. He was buggin, because he said “now that sounds like some straight up Hip Hop that you just don’t hear anymore” and then tried to get a copy. Of course I said in due time fam. I like to transfer my beats and rhymes to tapes and listen to what it sounds like coming off a real boom box, because that’s how I heard Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five, Rakim, BDP, Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh , Ultramagnetic MC’s, Keith Elam, Public Enemy, Marley Marl & the Juice Crew All Stars for the first time and many others. Fell in love with Hip Hop that way and that’s how I keeps the love. DISTRAKT SCRATCH COLLECTION

Scratch is one of my favorite magazines. Really missed these joints. Had great articles and tips that was priceless. When I heard they where no more a dude was crushed, because this was a magazine that felt genuine and spoke clearly to the beat makers from a novice to a high power level. It had crazy science yawl. Mean look at who was on the cover from Dr. Dre, Premo, Rza, Kanye, Neptunes I mean just look. To all you up and coming producers, you ever get the opportunity to read any of the old issues you won't be sorry. Gives you the opportunity to get your game tight. It covered all aspects of the Hip Hop production and individual genres from underground, hardcore, gangster and mainstream. It also gave business tips for all you music entertainment entrepreneurs. DISTRAKT AND WIRES

EMU SP-1200 is my weapon of choice, but you know what? You could have any machine with high power features, with crazy connectivity and software integration with your Mac or PC, but none of it would work without a mutha#@*!&% WIRE! Wire's the nervous system for any pre-production or professional recording studio. Now great wire's not cheap. You could pay $100 for one cable or a $100 for eight cables. There's all types of brands out there to choose from with whatever color or texture you like, for me underground Hip Hop producers can't always afford that top quality joint. That's why you're seeing a dude use a more affordable grade of wire called Hosa™ that's plugged into the EMU SP-1200.
